I started playing music at a very early age. Cello being my first instrument. I gave way to favoring the guitar in the mid 60's. It was definitely a very interesting time to be growing up while having a strong interest in music. As any kid at the time, rock and roll seemed to be the main attraction, but one day my father took me to see a recital by the famous guitarist Alirio Diaz at Hiram college in Ohio. I was amazed and listened in awe to this wonderful guitarist, I made it my goal to learn this style.
I found it difficult to find teachers in those days, especially teachers who could teach classical style. After being shuffled around from one teacher to another, I discovered the Cleveland Music Settlement where I learned my classical technique from the late James Luce, a wonderful guitar teacher who eventually encouraged the school to hire me as a teacher there. Still being in High school, I found it quite an honor and challenge to be a faculty member at such a respected school. Thanks to Mr. Luce for kick starting my career.
After teaching at the CMSS for a several years, I briefly taught at Kent State University and the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson Ohio. It was here that I met and befriended the late William Appling , one of my biggest musical influences. Then it was off to Boston in the mid 70's where I lived on the streets for a wile paying some dues and trying to set up shop. It took awhile but I managed to get through and now I have settled in Framingham, teaching in my own studio and also Centre Music House in Framingham.
I learned my wood working skills from my father who was a wood worker by trade, then studied guitar building from Thomas Knatt from Groton MA, I have been building and repairing guitars for over 30 years now.
Thanks for your interest.
My latest as of 2016, cocobollo Rosewood with an old sitka top I acquired from the Martin Co. about 30 years ago when I used to work for them.
